Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot including angels, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the city.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the events of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, attacking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could enable the team access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them few options but to travel to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Seekers and Planners groups.

Audiences can expect discovering which characters will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
